Highway Maya World

In Quintana Roo until Chiapas are around 179 thousand miles, it is obviously a long journey that may last from 16 to 18 hours and where it is necessary to plan well lapses that comes to arrive in Cancun, Quintana Roo, until the viewpoints of the Sumidero Canyon, in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

Notimex, given the proximity of the Easter holidays and Easter, made that journey that began in the Mexican Caribbean, one of the most important destinations of the country and where it generates 30 per cent of the foreign exchange obtained by a year concept of tourism.

The journey started with the tank full to the first point of the trail that was saved Merida and the area in poor condition, some 20 kilometres from the arrival in the capital of Yucatán, the remainder of the trip takes place without major setbacks in that stretch.

From Cancun to Merida, from two booths share, the route is 332 miles in a span of approximately three hours, at an average speed of 110 kilometres per hour, allowed to transit through this route operated by the Highway Trust Company Kantunil – Cancun.

The advantage of this road are four separate lane to ensure one-way, round and round, but with the handicap of being extremely boring because it is virtually a straight line and covered in full by the jungles casualties characterize this region (see hotels boutiques en Mexico).

The highway connects directly to the path that connects with Merida Campeche, which covers an area of approximately 202 kilometers, which is necessary before enfilarse load gasoline again to complete the next point.

The road to Campeche is two-way, which requires utmost caution, in addition to any time of year tends to have a good occupation of units engaged in the transport of heavy cargo.

The track has a tourist in the vicinity of the town of Yucatan Halachó, (pronounced Jalachó) so that the traveler can take a break.

It takes nearly two hours, landscapes, as the peninsular plain, do not change much until the road Champoton, about 68 miles from entronque that goes straight to the heart of Campeche.

To reach this fishing village used another road quota that is in very good condition, and from there walk about 227 kilometres to reach the next point of the trail, which is the oil town of Ciudad del Carmen.

By then, and despite the long journey of about approximately eight hours, the senses are offset because the adventure is framed by hundreds of miles to converge with beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, where highlights and Sabancuy Seybaplaya.

That section carries an average of two hours 45 minutes, but times can vary, because they are going through several military checkpoints and plant health inspection booths, it is recommended to the adventurous “Mundo Maya” reload fuel.

After arriving at Ciudad del Carmen, it will travel some 280 kilometres to reach the next point, the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco.

To do so, passengers will already have gone through the bridges of “The Unit, which is part of the island-Wash-Port Royal and Zacatal, located in Ciudad del Carmen, where, with a little luck, it is possible to see dolphins swimming in the bay.

Here is where road conditions change drastically, because the road goes Atasta, in Campeche, the town of Frontera, Tabasco, it lacks almost all signs and the general conditions of the folder are not very good, besides, be a two-way street.

Already in the leg-Mexico Border, the situation improved because there are better signage, but should be taken into account that is an area livestock and there is a need to avoid being surprised by a cow crossing the road.

Upon arrival in Mexico already have travelled at least 764 miles from Cancun, which at an average speed of 100 kilometres per hour equivalent, without stopping, to about eight hours.

After a very long journey, the best option is to continue to rest the last point of the trail, the Sumidero Canyon, in Chiapas therefore go into federal highway involves a longer time to travel through the state, which was offset by security.

This section covers some 390 kilometres of which are already offering the traveler a journey full visual spectacular, as the tropical landscape of vegetation, rivers and swamps begins to change to mountain views and spectacular rivers.

The burden of gasoline is at this stage, an annoying but necessary obligation.

Within this road is necessary to warn that the highway connecting Mexico with Tuxtla Gutierrez currently has several sections under repair and is a way in which it is not recommended to travel at a speed more than 90 miles per hour.

Being a mountainous area there are stretches in which climbs several meters above sea level, there are curves that offer little visibility and steep slopes that require patience and caution.

It should be seen that this is an area prone to landslides and it is possible to find in the middle of the road with livestock and / or deer, which are also part of the fauna of the region.

After about six hours of travel, can be reached by an end to the viewpoints of the Sumidero Canyon, a national park located at the confluence of geographic Chiapa de Corzo, Tuxtla Gutierrez, and Chicoasén Usumacinta.

Its walls, which amount to 200 thousand meters high, are the result of a geological fault formed 36 million years ago, offering lush flora and fauna, abundant water runoff that adorn and which in turn feed the Grijalva, one of the rivers streams in the country.

Whoever achieves complete the course will be happy, because after achieving the reward as long voyage, will not matter much to have paid about 689 pesos in roads and bridges and having consumed more than three tanks of gasoline (in this case was spent 980 pesos).

Wandering through the “Mundo Maya” means therefore worthy to be considered an option for those who like landscapes and adventures that are guaranteed in perpetuity by the memories of those who secure last for a lifetime.

Only it must be remembered that any road trip is unexpected, it is important to maintain the usual recommendations: avoid driving at night or tired, never drink alcohol if they are going to drive, revising the terms of the order and ensure respect speed limits .

Anyone who wishes to venture should feel safe, because at the end of the long journey, the beauty of “Mundo Maya” is the best reward.
