Ecotours in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico* GETTING THERE: Visitors can fly to the Toluca, Morelia or Mexico City airports and then rent a car or hop a bus to Angangueo or Zitacuaro, both of which offer lodging and transportation, usually buses or taxis, to the butterfly reserve. It takes about three hours to get to Angangueo by car from Toluca or Morelia and about four hours to get there from Mexico City. People unfamiliar with the area should hire a car or take a tour bus for the 30-minute trip from Angangueo to the El Rosario sanctuary as the roads can be twisty and sometimes dangerous. In late November, Continental Airlines had roundtrip tickets on February flights from O’Hare airport to Toluca for less than $500. * ANGANGUEO: Tourism office in Angangueo, Mexico, is at (011) 52-715-156-0044, but you may not be able to get information in English. That’s the way it has been for millennia along the isolated beaches in the state of Nayarit – an area marked by a ruffled coastline just north of Puerto Vallarta, and framed to the east by the blue outline of the lofty Sierra Madre Mountains. Nowadays, it’s a magnet for surfers. “This town has a very eclectic flavour,” says tourism representative Richard Zarkin, as he edges our van into a rare find – a parking space on the main street of Nayarit’s latest hot spot, the enclave of Sayulita.Source:thestar.com Posteado el Enero 17, 2008 - Categorizado en General Deep Sea Fishing in Puerto Vallarta20 miles out in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in the center of the Mexican Riviera. As you peer across the water, you see thousands of birds feeding on millions of small bait fish as they are driven to the water’s surface by larger fish from below. With acres of bait fish breaking the surface, the entire area, as far as you can see, has an oily sheen and the smell of a fish factory. As thousands of dolphins are playfully flipping and twisting while feeding in this orgy and larger game fish are joining the birds in this feeding frenzy; it’s time to strap yourself in and get ready for action! Before we go fishing, let’s first check out the marina. In the well protected Puerto Vallarta marina, you will see in excess of 400 beautiful boats including multi-million dollar mega-yachts from throughout the world, million dollar fishing boats, and many sail boats from around the world (see fishing in Puerto Vallarta). Circling 80% of the marina’s perimeter, you’ll find over 100 fine boutiques and five star restaurants. Behind and above these establishments are condominiums, all having magnificent views of the marina with its colorful array of boats. What a glorious site!Source:mexico.vg Posteado el Diciembre 13, 2007 - Categorizado en General Vacation In MexicoPuerto Morelos is just a few miles south of Cancun, but a thousand miles away in pace and attitude. There are no giant hotels, no busy streets and no beer-swilling donkeys braying outside barn-sized discos. With my wife and several friends, I stayed at a small hotel whose owners asked not to be mentioned. They like things the way they are in Puerto Morelos. No more people needed or wanted, in their view.I can understand that. In Puerto Morelos, you can walk anywhere you need to go. The beach is straight and long, and while there were always people around — especially vacationing Mexicans (see Quintana Roo beaches) — there always seemed to be plenty of open spots for my towel. The plaza is still the community’s heart. The open-sided Catholic church anchors one side, the grocery store another, the third is lined with cafes. The fourth side is open to the marina, where the fishing boats tie up. In the evenings, the benches are full of young couples and families eating ice cream cones. Hard to believe that only 30 minutes away, the unbridled debauchery of spring break was in full fever at a Vacation In Mexico.
