Mexico Vacations Weblog / » Tourism in Mexico: GuadalajaraCosmopolitan and refined, and nevertheless provincial. Modern and dynamic, and traditional, nevertheless full of corners that they invite to the calmness. Capital of the mariachi and the tequila, two of the Mexican icons, Guadalajara is a showcase that summarizes the essence of Mexico. Extensive but glided well, Guadalajara can be crossed in an escape of two days. A traditional beginning of the visit is the Historical Center, with the Cathedral of the century XVI to which in century XVII the twin towers were added that are their distinguishing mark. Also they are the Palace of Government and the Hospicio Cabins, today museum and seat of the Institute of Culture of the state. In his main building the jalisciense painter Jose Clemente Orozco made some of his better murals, in special the one of the vault: Prometheus in flames. In the Degollado Theater, of elegant neoclassic architecture and luxurious interiors, take place more important the artistic and cultural events of the West of the country, but the cultural atmosphere extends towards the Seat of the Founders (located to its backs), where concerts and artistic activities are celebrated. A stroll in calandria, or in romantic or familiar plan; a typical food after a morning of unusual purchases in the boisterous Market Freedom, also call San Juan de God – birria, pozole, slight or, for the bold ones, the famous drowned cakes (those that know say that the best ones are those of Toño’s, in Avenue Tepeyac and the Roses) -, and a nocturnal serenade in the Seat of the Mariachis, is some enchantments of the traditional Guadalajara.
